Scarlett wanted the cake to be perfect.
She stirred carefully.
Measured carefully.
Poured carefully.
Pudding sat nearby hoping for crumbs.
Lenny watched from the counter.
When the cake came out of the oven, Scarlett stared.
One side had risen higher than the other.
āItās ruined,ā she whispered.
Pudding tilted his head.
Lenny stayed very still.
Scarlett looked closer.
The cake still smelled warm.
It still tasted sweet.
And when Granny tried a slice, she smiled.
āThis tastes like love,ā she said.
Scarlett blinked.
The cake hadnāt needed to look perfect to be wonderful.
That night, Scarlett smiled into her pillow.
āMaybe people donāt need to be perfect either,ā she whispered.
Pudding snored softly.
Lenny stayed close.
And something inside Scarlett softened.
š«¶ Dream big dreams.
